Percents turn messy raw marks into a shared language—then weights show you where an hour of study buys the most points.

From marks to percents

If you earn 47 of 55 points on a unit test, divide 47 ÷ 55 and multiply by 100 to get about 85.5%. That single move is the same skill as converting a ratio to a percentage, just dressed in scantron vocabulary.

Weights change the story

A homework section worth 10% of the course can be perfect while a final worth 40% still dominates your outcome. When you build a study plan, allocate hours proportional to both difficulty and weight. The detailed mechanics live in how to calculate grade percentages.

Pick a target course percent, freeze everything except the final, and solve for the exam percent you would need. Even if you do not hit the fantasy number, the exercise shows whether office hours are worth it before the last week of term.
